Getting Started With Spring Trail Integrative Oncology?
What is integrative oncology and is it right for you?
Integrative oncology refers to the combination of integrative, also known as complementary, therapies alongside standard cancer treatments. Integrative and complementary therapies can include such things as dietary changes, nutritional supplements, exercise, getting better sleep, reducing stress, acupuncture, repurposed medications, as well as certain gentle IV or subcutaneous therapies. Integrative and complementary therapies can reduce symptoms sometimes associated with cancer and cancer treatment including pain, fatigue, nausea, insomnia, and anxiety. Importantly, an integrative approach can also bring about changes in your body that make it a harder environment for cancer cells to survive in. While standard, conventional treatments are often effective at killing cancer cells, they usually do not address the need to optimize the environment around the cancer cells. The goal of integrative oncology is to make the body as inhospitable to cancer cells as possible, in addition to helping with symptoms and improving quality of life.
Personalized Approach
You may have been diagnosed with cancer, but you are so much more than your diagnosis! At Spring Trail, we believe cancer care is most effective when it is tailored to each individual’s needs. We believe in spending time with each patient, learning about their background and personal journey. We also believe in the value of comprehensive testing to better understand each patient’s biological traits and condition as well as the biological traits of their cancer.

Helping You Navigate Cancer
At Spring Trail, we love to see patients make the decision to take charge of their health in the face of a cancer diagnosis. We know that this decision can be the first step along the trail that leads to a successful outcome. We are committed to supporting you on your journey and helping you navigate your trail.
As we do not offer the full spectrum of conventional cancer treatments, including IV chemotherapy and other intensive standard treatments, we recommend that our patients also establish care and follow regularly with a conventional oncology practice so that they have access to any and all treatments that might be appropriate for their condition.
We believe collaboration between medical team members is important, and we will work collaboratively with your primary oncologist and other members of your cancer treatment team. If you are receiving treatments through your primary oncologist or other health care providers, we will do our best to tailor our recommendations to minimize the risk of negative interactions and to maximize the benefits to your health.
Kevin Brown, M.D. is a board certified integrative medicine physician, oncologist, and hematologist, and the founder and owner of Spring Trail Integrative Oncology.
